New Rider
In answer to the question "what is the best way to get involved while
not owning a horse", I have 2 suggestions. First is volunteer! You can
learn a lot that way, see what all it entails, and see when you think
you will feel comfortable trying it. The 2nd is, if possible, find an
instructor who specializes in distance riding if there is one in your
area. My friend that I board with (who introduced me to the sport)
gives lessons and takes any of the students who are interested to rides
when they are ready, on her lesson horses. It's a great way to get into
it before you find yourself a horse owner. If there isn't anyone like
that near you, just go to as many rides as you can and help out, get to
know the riders, and ask questions! When you are ready you may find
someone who needs a rider.
