crops and competition
Sylvia had a good point. While it's bad manners to use your crop to
discourage other horses from passing if they are doing so safely, it can
be a good way to remind less-saftey-conscious people that there's a time
and a place for various behavior. I rarely carry one, but if Akela is
getting grouchy with my friend Donna's mare, Donna will reach out and
crack him one, with my blessing. He knows just how long her crop and
arm are, too! (But you should see the look on his face when I "borrow"
the crop and do my own cracking and he hasn't seen me take it...)
