Yes, that was one of the really scary possible side effects that kept many of
us from using or recommending the injectable vaccines, even in horses at high
risk. So far it seems that the intranasal is a safe alternative wherein one
can protect one's horse from strangles without risk of exactly the sort of
horror story that you and your horse went through.
