Yes, I would highly recommend the new intranasal strangles vaccine as part of
the immunization program. It needs to be given twice the first year 3-4 weeks
apart, and then annually after that. We see SO much more strangles than we
used to from rides--likely because more people are involved, more endurance
horses are boarders, and there is so much more travel. I would like to see it
given in time that the second immunization was a week or two behind you before
you plan your first ride. So far I have yet to see reactions, and have not
heard of any, although I am not naive enough to believe that there is ANY
vaccine that is reaction-free.
