News Report - Wild Horse Shootings
I got this from the www.kolotv.com website:
Three Suspects in Custody for Shooting Wild Horses
Three men are in custody now and being questioned for the shooting deaths
of 34 wild horses in a canyon east of Reno. Authorities say one man is in
custody in Reno, the other two in Southern California. All three suspects
are twenty-one years old and from the Reno area. Anthony Jon Merlino, a
construction worker in Reno, was taken in for questioning today. The other
two suspects are both U.S. Marines, based in California. Scott Williams
Brendle is stationed at 29 Palms and Darien Thomas Brock is based at Camp
Pendelton. Law officers have been investigating the case since December
27, when the horses were found in a canyon several miles east of Reno.
Authorities said Tuesday night in a news conference that these developments
could not have happened if it weren't for all the tips and leads they
received both locally, nationally and internationally. Local animal
protection groups have helped raise a $35,000 reward for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the
shootings. There's no word yet who will receive the reward. Authorities
say it took a number of tips and leads to get to this point. Stay with News
Channel 8 for the very latest on this story.
