I'm not a vet, so this is about $.005 worth of advise . . I would try putting
a poultice on the leg first to draw out the heat. I've used Uptite poultice
for yrs on my endurance horses. I wrap duct tape around the outside to hold
everything on, and then run some water down the top once a day to keep the
clay wet (it is a mess to put on and take off). Fold over the ends of the
duct tape to make removal easier. My neighbor, a horsewoman and cardiologist,
told me that bute thins the blood, so I've always used it very sparingly.
