Ahhh yes, the elusive Cougar Tick. Here in California they are huge and make
a loud noise when they drop off the trees in search of their prey. They have
been known to carry off small children who were left unattended in ridecamps
(probably nabbed a few of those loose dogs too). The Cougar Tick is the main
reason most Californians wear helmets. We used to have thousands of naked
hikers, but the Cougar Tick has effectively "nipped that problem in the bud"
(so to speak). They are particularly aggressive during mating season (I'd
better stop now).
