Hopping fences
Thanks for all the response on hobbling. I think I'll try to train
Elliot *slowly* whenever I get a chance to buy some hobbles.
I have another question. We put up the no-climb horse safe fencing,
which has been pretty nice overall. Our "starving" old mare managed to
lean over part of the fencing, to reach some grass on a hill on the other
side. I think I see some hotwire in her future... However, one has to
walk around to gates everywhere, which drives me nuts. We used to have
a two rail board fence, and if you wanted to go somewhere, you could go
in a basically straight line, ducking through fences as needed. But
it's impossible to climb over wire mesh without doing damage, so I was
wondering how people dealt with this. I'm thinking about taking some
two-by-fours, sawing them into smallish pieces, and nailing them to
high-traffic posts on both sides, tree fort style, to make ladders that
go up one side and down the other. I'm not sure that this would be
horse safe. I can't think of how a horse could hurt himself on two-by-
fours firmly nailed to a post (assuming the two-by-fours weren't
particularly long), but they never consult me before wounding themselves,
either. Does anyone have ideas?
Thanks,
Sarah & Elliot & Holly (I'm hungry!)
