Re: RC: REST PERIOD
John,
Given the rides you are doing the 2 weekends before your 3 day 80, I would
ride lightly Mon and/or Tues (no more than 10 miles, take it easy on rough
footing, e.g. rocks, mud --- no sense pulling anything that close to the
ride).
I don't ride 4 days before a competition. If I do a CTR on the weekend and
plan another the following weekend (or a 50 mile endurance ride), I don't
ride the horse at all in the intervening week. However, my horses are on 24
hour pasture with access to their stalls, so they keep moving around as their
only source of food is pasture. Plus the pond (water source) is at the
opposite end of the pasture from the barn,so they are forced to walk back &
forth.
I would see how your horses come thru the 80 mile before deciding on the CTR
2 weeks after (if you can put off sending in your entry that long!). If
their legs come thru real clean (little or no fill the day of the ride & the
day after the ride) & if their metabolics were good on the ride, I'd consider
doing the CTR 2 weeks later.
Have fun on your rides!
