Having worked for a while in a veterinary acupuncture/chiropractic
practice, I have to say there is no possible way that the placebo effect
could account for what I have seen.

Both of these modalities are based in science.  They are not
hocus-pocus.  The major objection that medical doctors have to
acupuncture is that it can't be researched through double-blind
studies.  The person who puts the needles in knows what the points are
for.  So in that sense it's "unproven" but it's not unproven for those
of us who've seen it work over and over and over again in most
remarkable ways.

I haven't checked out the quackery site, yet . . .
