I'm not heel-phobic; I like to see a bit more heel all around than
you're inclined to see on the garden variety shoeing job, but I prefer a
"boxed" heel in front (by beveling the hoof side of the heel a bit to
keep hind shoes, roots, etc. from catching on it). I still wouldn't
call it a trailer though.
Wouldn't a hind swedge have the same "braking" effect you were concerned
about with the square toe?
I'll buy shoe weight as a valid approach. Two points for you there.
