At a ride in Montana we were having dinner under a big top with open sides. My wife (Janette) and I were close to the center isle with close to a huddled people having dinner. The camp was set up in a range pasture with dry cattle signatures randomly left here and there. After sun down the lighting was very pore. We were sitting at a table with folding chairs having a wonderful stake dinner, I made a couple of trips for coffee and other goodies having to slide my chair back each trip to get out. Janette had her fill and got up to give a dog a bit of stake she could not finnish. Next thing I heard was "Get your legs up, there's a rattler under you chair." When the dog reached for the meet in Janette's hand the rattler bit the dog on the nose. Thank God it chose the dog which belonged to a vet and was taken care of, and is ok. I did get to escort few rider's back to there camp that night having gone for one of the few flashlight's. (" Do not kick dry cow pie's in the dark.")
