All right, Truman. I dare you to go to the end of the dock and go
"grmppphhhh" in a bass a couple of times! Let me know how many show up.
(I used to have so much fun doing that to our northern cousins in the
summer. They never believed I could call 'gators until some big ones
swam in!)
I never had a horse problem with the gators (maybe horse & rider were
too big), but we lost a medium dog to one. Of course, University of FL
(my alma mater) had a pond w/ "George" - a 14 footer that would be
hauled away from the pond by the dorms, only to show up again in a
couple of weeks. I think he retired as a suitcase and handbag by way of
the state professional hunter.
We always did a double check before taking the horses in for a swim...
The water moccasins (aka cotton mouths) were MUCH worse than the gators,
in my opinion.
