Yes, we have a Gordon Setter with a similar problem: our horse Joint Combo, 
mixed in a ball of meat worked this way: If we gave it, she seemed better, if 
we didn't she got worse. We kept her on it and very gradually, over almost a 
2 year period, she eventually came fully sound and is now not taking the 
supplement. Basic ingredients: Glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate in a 2 to 1 
ratio.
Try something like this and, if you see improvement, stick with it for a 
while.
