My ALMOST white (light grey) Arab came face to face with a cougar at a water 
trough one day and DID NOT spook!!!!  I, however, was spooking big time.  The 
cougar crouched and stared at us (probably deciding if he wanted grey poupon 
or regular on us) so I started waving my arms, yelling, and trying to look 
big.  The cat took off up a hillside and disappeared.  This entire time 
(seemed like eternity to me) my horse just stared at the cougar, no spooking 
whatsoever.  THEN he calming walked up to the trough that the nice kitty had 
just left and took a drink!!  My knees shook for the next half hour,. Then I 
marvelled at how beautiful and magnificent that cat had been (I hope to never 
meet him again though).  Sooo, maybe there is nothing to this myth, eh?
