Re: bodyclipping
Trish & everyone else that Re:
I don't body clip my horses, but I have
an alturnitive to the long,
scraggley winter hair that stays wet hours after
a training ride.
I use a 4'' emergency candle and
"candle" them.
All you need is a candle, a butane
lighter, and a calm day.
I start behind and just below the
left knee, and work up.
It works like a control burn- it stops when it
gets to the real hair.
I do the horses legs, under-side, gaskins,
inside hind legs,
his chest & throat-latch.Then take a soft
rubber curry to him.
I've been doing this years, each spring,
and only one horse
so far, did'nt approve of it. My recent horse,
DLB, practically
falls asleep. I know, it sounds weird, It
started in Europe way
before electricity and clippers.
It cleans them up real good and takes
their winter coat off
a little more gradual for times when it's nice
one day and next
it's like it was at Derby Ditch.
The rubber curry really brings out the
shine and tones your
arm musles at the same time so you can rein him
in 'cause
He's feeling so darn
good.
