Deb,
I'm assuming that your "white" horse is actually a gray with dark skin.
(A "white" horse has depigmented skin - see the pink skin under white
areas on Paints & Apps.) To see if there is damage equivalent to white
hairs on a colored horse, part the gray horse's hair and look for pink
spots of skin.
If it is truely a white horse, I don't know what you'd see. I've never
had a white horse - just lots of grays.
