RE: Home on the Range
This
was a terrific ride! I don't have the results, but will try to post
some
of
them later this week. 70+ started the 50 miler, 61 finished.
Around
60
started the 25 miler, and 50 or so finished. The trail was
beautiful
and
fast! It was quite cool and cloudy (even a few snow flakes
when
we
started). The winning time on the 50 (Dori Jackson) was 3:40 - pretty
amazing. The trail was mostly 2-track sand/dirt jeep roads and
sand/dirt
cow
trails - excellent footing, no major climbs. We rode around
several
lakes
- ducks, geese, herons, raptors, mule deer, sand hill
cranes. This was a new ride, managed by Sarah Metcalf, and
we
all
hope she'll do it again! For the central Washington
sagebrush
desert, this ride was exceptionally scenic. Almost no rock, and
never
boring. We shared some of the course with campers and
fishers - one group un-knowingly camped right where we
came
off of
one trail, and started down another. The ribboned post
was in
the middle of their camp. They seemed to cope ok though,
and as
the day progressed began sharing their supply of holiday
'spirit' with the riders! I think everybody had a great time -
this
really
was a wonderful ride.

Did anyone go to this ride? How
was it? Weather? Great new ride?
Thanks,
susie (dying to get out
there!)
