RE: Questions on saddle ID
In addition to horse-drawn artillery, the German Army also utilized large
numbers of cavalry, particularly on the Eastern front where the Russians
also used cavalry extensively. Horse soldiers were commonly used in the
reconnaissance role by both sides. There is a very good out-of-print book
on cavalry in WWII that has numerous excellent photos of German
cavalry/mounted infantry. If you are interested I will get the proper
title, author, and publisher. A friend of mine has a copy.
