No Bridle
The question arose about Earl Baxter doing a ride with no bridle - yes- it is true. I can't remember where it was, but I was on the trail with him. I am not sure what the logic was, I am thinking that there was NONE. It truly sounds like a foolish thing to do for a number of reasons. I have ridden with Earl for many years, and would not hesitate to tell him so.
As far as riding bareback on a ride. Two times about 15 years ago I was riding horses for Wayne McMinn and the saddles (we used McLellands back then) needed emergency repairs, so I rode a leg without. Was second in both rides! (maybe would have won if I had decent equipment!) I wouldn't recommend it!!! I too grew up without a saddle - my first horse was too big to get the saddle on, so I rode without!
Laura Hayes and Music (who never was ridden bareback until he came here)
