Blood work advice needed

Hi Ridecampers,
Have a question I could use some help with...I wanted to do a blood
workup on my endurance gelding before ride season and when I called the
vet to talk to him about it, I was told to tell him exactly what work
was needed.... I don't know what to tell him!!  Is a CBC a complete
workup or do I need to ask specifically for selenium or any other
minerals, etc.?  I don't want to ask for "the works" and then end up
having a bunch of stuff done that wasn't necessary either.  Any and all
advice is appreciated!!
