RE: The Etiquette of Passing
I've had faster riders come up behind me and call out politely, "Yield the
trail, please". The key is that I acknowledge their request verbally and
then search for a stretch of trail where I can either pull off or is wide
enough that they can pass. It is frustrating for the riders waiting to pass
when they don't know if the rider in front has heard them or understands
their request.
When I hear another horse approaching I will usually ask, "Do you want to
pass?". This makes it very easy for both of us.
