In the SE, we often have "red mud", wet clay type mud ahat is real sticky.
Yes, it sucks shoes off sometimes, ecspecially if there are pads also.
Depends on the compostion of the mud, I guess.

I just have to ask, is it really possible for mud to suck a shoe off?!
We have a LOT of mud here when the snow melts.Sometimes it lasts for months
and neither of my horses have lost a shoe sense we moved here 2 1/2 years
ago. I'm not sure what you mean by lower nails but my farrier always nails
the clenches as low as possible.
I also have a great farrier! I laughed when someone asked about our
farriers staying up to date! My farrier is a true cowboy who has probably
never gone to any kind of school to learn about shoeing. But I wouldn't
trade him for anything!
The first thing he asked me the first time he came out was, what do you
want their angles at? I thought, WOW! I think I'm going to like this guy!
And my horses feet look better than they ever have before.
I must have gotten lucky. Oh! did I also mention that his prices are dirt
cheep? Well enough bragging for now!
