100+ mile ride?
Has anyone ever put on, and AERC sanctioned, an endurance ride that was
greater than 100 miles in a 24hour period? Seems with the fast times on
100's lately, look at Death Valley Encounter times the past two years, that
this feat could be accomplished by some horses with minimal additional
impact. I have been dragged silly by a horse that finished 30th at the
Tevis after the 100 mile distance. No doubt in my mind that the horse
could have and would have continued on. Maybe it would be staged in a
desert setting? Would this not be a "true" test of endurance? Maybe make
it 30-36 hours for fun. Also, an award for last crew to go to bed would be
appropriate.
Just a thought!
