I know exactly what you are talking about. I kept thinking if I could only
put a blinder on the horse that was doing the ponying & he didn't see the
ponyed horse close to his right side he might be better. Unfortunately, I
don't have any horse blinders.
Well, the last time I ponyed a horse off of him it started all over again,
"Mom, he's too close to me. Mom, I don't want him to come on our ride, etc.,
etc." So I rode back to the barn, put a fly mask on the horse I was riding
and close pinned a piece of fabric over the right side of the mask so he
couldn't see the horse we were ponying. Things went much smoother! Not
perfect, but MUCH better.
You might give that a try.
