vetwrap instead of easy boots.
Before our long ride up in the hills Friday, I decided to put easy boots on the front feet of my mare. I have a call into my farrier for shoes about this time of year, but my mare has been doing okay barefoot. Still, since there are a few rocky areas, I thought the easy boots might be a good idea.
I carefully did about 3 nice wraps around the heel bulbs and frog with the vet wrap, then struggled to put the easy boots on. Despite my tried and true method of hammering on the toe with a rubber mallet, I just could not get them on, and finally realized my mare's feet were a bit too long. Okay then, since there was extra foot there, I would not worry too much about being barefoot. Then my friend pulled by on the road, and I threw my mare in the trailer. Never did have time to remove the vet wrap! Well, it stayed there for most of the ride ( 3 or 4 hours).....must have had some benefit to protecting the heels. Hey, maybe next time I will wrap the feet with vetwrap and put duct tape over the whole job........cheaper and easier than easy boots!
Hey, if I market this idea and sell the whole thing in a "kit"maybe I can make some $$. I will have to find some heavy duty, shock absorbing hi-tech vet-wrap and brightly colored duct tape.
