I tried every bit imaginable with running martingales, standing martingales to
no avail.  The head tossing and nose in the air was still there.  Finally, I
switched to a "s" curved hackamore.  Problem solved.  The horse couldn't stand
a bit in his mouth.  Unless you have raised the horse from a colt you don't
know what kind of treatment they had with the bit in their mouth.  Could be
they just don't like it -- try removing it.  With a 'good' (remember I didn't
say severe) hackamore you retain control and sometimes make a happier horse.
