Re: alfalfa and heart rate (long)
Pam,
I'm sure we all have a lot to learn. I have ridden and raised horses
for (gasp!) almost 40 years, and I still learn something new almost
every day.I have heard the stories about alfalfa hay for years too, but
almost every person I know has the best luck with it--it's better than
grain and they tolerate it well. In winter, it is the ONLY feed which
keeps weight on when it gets cold.Because I teach full-time, it is also
much easier for me to feed. I do feed Oat hay also, but my "staple" is
the alfalfa. Good luck with your horses too.Remember--all of them are
individuals--you have to "eyeball" each one. My Dad(who was from
Ireland, always said--"LOOK at your horse. It will tell you all you
need to know." I think he's correct in many cases! ( Feeding is
like "riding your own ride"--listen and learn and do the best you
can! There are a million "solutions" to a problem and with luck and
knowledge, hopefully you'll find the best one for you.
MLaureen
