hole in the wall
I just got home from the first Hole in the Wall 50, and what a ride! The
location is at the Hole in the Wall Wyoming where Butch Cassity and friends
had a hideout. The ride site was at the headquarters of the Willow Creek
Ranch, with a beautiful camp area, a cook house where we had Friday
lunch, and dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, and Sunday
breakfast all included in the entry fee! Plus the food was excellent!
Now for the trail, it was marked better than any trail I have ever been
on.You were always in site of one or more ribbons with all the ribbons on
the same side of the trial. The trail had wonderful footing with very
little rock, we did have a few holes. We past the area where the hole is
in the wall, saw the site of the outlaws cabin, and beautiful views of the
area.
This was the first ride here and I would make it a must on anyones lists of
rides for next year.
Kathy Arnold won the ride and best condition, Bud Arnold, and Dorothy Sue,
were the first three in on Saturday. Sunday morning 6 riders started but I
didn't stay to see how the placings turned out.
After the awards Saturday night there was a campfire with 2 local ranchers
there to tell us about some of the history of the area and about the
outlaws. The family of the story tellers have been in the area since the
late 1800's. The stories were interesting and you could relate to the
areas you have ridden thru during the day.
Be sure to include this on your ride list for next year!
