Another take on "vandalism":

An old rancher (literallly the very LAST one left in this area - every
other has sold out because they couldn't pay the property taxes brought on
by tourism and greed) said with a twinkle in his eye, (the other day when
we my husband and I went riding with him) "Oops, there's another ribbon. 
Missed that one.  Poor buggers.  Can't find their way home, guess they
shouldn't be out here."  He grinned.  

I wanted to explain endurance riding to a guy who rode his horse to school,
and knows the mountains like the creases in his horse's eyes...  to explain
100 mile rides to a man whose family homesteaded over 100 years ago in a
covered wagon...  oh well.  I kept my mouth shut.

Please remain calm (ie. no manmade internet fires).  Just a different view,
not necessarily correct, but not necessarily vandalism, and certainly not a
generation-X thing!
