Dark urine

Hi campers,    I remember some time ago a list-member posting about
this, but don't remember any responses.  On Saturday I rode my gelding
an easy 12 miles (3+ hours).  When we returned to the trailer and he
urinated, I noticed a small amount of very dark urine at the end of the
stream.  I also noticed that he was tender over the loin area which I
had never noticed before.  There were no other indications of a
problem.  Today we did a faster 8 miles and when we got home, he
urinated, and again, passed an even smaller amount of dark urine at the
very end of the stream.  I am planning to do a slow 50 October 4th (his
first 50 and mine) and am worried about this.  This is a fit horse
getting 2 lbs of about 12% sweet feed a day and 24/7 pasture.  He seems
fine otherwise, his heart rate and recoveries are normal.  Is there
someone out there that could enlighten me as to what may be going on?
