back bumps, sore knees, other newbie q's
Several questions... feel free to reply privately :-)
My Pony Boy who wants to be an endurance horse developed, while we were on
that 2-week OR wilderness jaunt, copious big flaky dandruff under the (Skito
Equalizer) saddle pad. His "front-back" seems ok now, the dandruff is
lessening and brushing out, but under the loin area of where the pad sits
there are lots of little, raised, scabby, dandruffy bumps which I can touch or
press, but if I try to scratch the area, he says ouch. Is this something akin
to rain rot, from so many hours under saddle, without a chance to rinse his
back or the pad? Or, what else could cause this? What can I do to make it
better? He received a Head'N'Shoulders shampoo today with thorough rinsing,
just to see if that would help!
My knees were in much pain with all the two-point, posting, hill (mountain)
climbs and descents. Today we did 9 miles, much trotting but on the flat and
my knees were hardly sore at all. Is there anything else I can do to help
them when mountain riding? Ace bandages won't work, they rub holes in my
inner knee skin. And I'm already riding a narrow horse, and using light
stirrups :-)
What is the PNER... I'm guessing Pacific Northwest Endurance Riders? What
does the group do, and what is their contact info? Do they have a website?
Anyone who has ridden the Lost Wheelbarrow Mine ride, I'd like to hear your
experiences, as I'm planning on trying it next year. Help! :-D
Thanks ever so,
Ready [Karen Bratcher] and Bender-boy
