re: Strongid responses
Thanks for all the responses, both private and public! I asked my darling
hubby, who is both the best critical thinker I know (can be a bit irksome
in that regard) and a very well-respected doctor, what he thought of the
discussion of strongid. He pointed out that one of the biggest mistakes he
sees in human medicine is the tendency to confuse coincidence with cause &
effect. Then he went on to say "That is not to say that one should ignore
obviously correlated events of course." Great. So, the question is whether
or not Strongid use correlates with colic and anemia with enough frequency
to be significant. _Five_ people said Strongid use correlated with
cessation of colic (caused from parasites presumably), two said they knew
of other people's horses who'd colicked when on or recently removed from
Strongid, and two spoke of personal experience with a horse who colicked
while on Strongid. From the responses I got, both private and public, I'll
stick with it for now. The response size is too small to be statistically
significant, but it's all I got. Please let me know if you have personal
horror stories though. I don't want to be wrong with my guy's health
(horse, not hubby). I must say, though I don't always trust theoretical
explanations of how medications "should" work, Trish's recap was pretty
impressive. And the anti-cynic in me chooses to believe that the makers of
Strongid would not knowingly continue to make a product that hurts horses.
Thanks.
