Hi all! I’ve been ‘lurking’ for awhile, and have found RideCamp to be a wonderful source of information. (And entertainment!) I haven’t found information on campers, however.
Next year, I will be shopping for a new ¾ ton truck - probably extended cab and 4 wheel drive. (A diesel would be wonderful, but wow are they pricey.) I would eventually like to get a 2 horse with a dressing room, so I need a big truck. Any advice on trucks would be appreciated! (I will be keeping my jeep cherokee for my main driving.)
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a ‘consumer reports’ type thing for campers. The only websites dealing with campers I’ve found are dealer web sites - not exactly unbiased about who the best ones are. I’ve searched the archives, but I haven’t found any information on them in RideCamp. I’ve looked at a few hardbodied campers, but haven’t been happy with the space and/or weight.
Since I live in a townhouse, I don’t have a place to keep the camper - it would have to stay on the truck, so the lighter the better. I have heard of some pop-up campers (campers, not tents), and wonder if anyone has heard of or owns one? There is a really well built light one based in my neck of the woods (www.FourWheelCampers.com) but it doesn’t have a shower, a requirement for me to wash off the poisen oak. (My Brenderup trailer has a solid floor, or I wouldn’t mind setting up a sunshower in it.) There are some other pop-ups campers I have heard about that have showers. What other well built brands of campers are (relatively) light (pop-up or solid), and have a shower (and a place to put things! Where do you put things when there is only one drawer, and the lower cupboard is so tiny?). I’m also interested in the pop-ups after speaking with 3 people who got rid of their cab-over campers because they didn’t feel comfortable driving them. Any comments on that?
Please Email me privately so the list doesn’t get cluttered up.
