mustangs
Hi Karen,
I also live in Nevada and the most frequent time we *chase* mustangs is to
get them out of our yard! We also have a Queensland heeler who is very
good at that. Our property is fenced but no gates! and yes we do run
across many on the trail. They have really increased (the herds that is)
the last few years following our drought. Usually they keep themselves out
in the hills where the water is unless we have some So. Calif. types (ouch,
I know I stepped on some toes, figure of speech only) who decide to put out
kiddie pools etc and water them. It is really a big problem around my
area. The other day when I was returning home, there was a herd of over 20
in a 17 acre field across from my place. I walked my horse out there and
they came up to us, surrounded us, and I reached down and petted a yearling
colt. Really wild huh? so yes, I did chase them further back out in the
hills, never leaving a slow trot. Harrassing them is not a problem that I
know of, moving them back out away from our places is what we do. Cats are
a bigger problem to the horses since Calif. outlawed hunting them and they
winter over here, they travel back and forth through our valley. Now with
the larger horse herds, the cats are sure they have found the local Safeway
store. They are following the horses and also becoming more comfortable
around humans so now we are getting sightings of cats in people's yards.
Guess they found the kiddie pools as well. Enuf of this. Hope you are
enjoying my ole' stomping grounds of Boise.
