barefoot horses
This is an interesting train of thought. Up until I started endurance
riding my horses were kept barefoot. My farrier believes a horse should
be barefoot. It's better for his feet. The wear on an endurance horse's
feet is such that they are "sanded down" faster than a horse that does
less miles.I keep shoes on them, and the heads of the horseshoe nails
wear out in less than five weeks. The shoes come loose if I am the least
bit slow in calling the farrier. The reason they wear shoes ONLY during
the ride season is to keep their feet from wearing down too much.
