Re: OKAY, HORSE BREEDERS, HERE'S YOUR NEWEST TECH CHALLENGE!
I don't think this technology will have a significant effect in the
horse industry. In any discipline it is not universally accepted that
one sex is better than the other.
Even in humans this sort of technology has existed for a while. My
sister and brother-in-law had his sperm "spun" and analyzed and it was
found that he has more girl sperm then boy sperm. After 2 girls she
wanted the third child to be a boy. They decided to skip the expense of
"spinning" sperm and opted to try other various home methods to ensure a
boy. I on the other hand, wanted a girl after my first child was a boy.
I also tried various methods, most of which were opposite of my sister.
In the end, it was up to GOD, as she had her third girl and I had my
second (and last) boy.
Maybe some big buck ranches will employ this technology, but by far, the
majority of the horses born in the U.S. are from small breeding
operations and one-time breeders and I don't think most of them really
care whether it is a colt or a filly.
