Latest VC results for Cascade/Sawmill VC3 and 4 Swanton

The Swanton Pacific Endurance Ride - August 15, 1998

Only one horse was pulled at the Airport VC - 44 with 
Antonio Malta of Brasil.  There was one injury - Lori
Olsen(#30) of Morgan Hill - out with a possible broken
collarbone between the airport VC and Cascade Ranch.
Her horse was doing really well all day, slipped
on the pavement - and both rider and horse went down.
The horse was fine and was ridden into the next VC
with Lori going to the Santa Cruz hospital to see
what the problem is. 

The leaders are doing very well with the first 3 -
Sharon Westergard, Larry Bowers, and Wendy Merendini
all in at the Sawmill(mile 84) at 5:59 PM. Sharon
picked up 9 minutes to catch the leaders on the last
2 loops.

One junior - Amber Boring - is trying to win the junior
National Series Championship award and has come all the 
way from Indiana for this ride.  She had intended to
compete in Old Dominion or Michigans Wolverine but
both times was not able to make it due to problems
with a fungus and shoeing.  It's a long way to come
and she is doing very well.  She is wearing her 
Chicken Chase sweatshirt and advertising Indiana.

Kathy Ruiz continues to ride with her hand taped,
splinted, and bandaged.  She intends to finish this
one. She even smiles once in a while..

The riders are spreading out now and there will be 
gaps in the info below for VC3 and VC4. VC2 was 
the airport where we don't have any data.

The ride and tie teams are still going with the 
first one T1 in Cascade at 5:26 and out at 5:55.
They are all running close together with Rio still
looking like he has not done any work yet.
