Wolverine 100

	I rode the Wolverine 100 but I finished 12 or 13th so I don't know
everything. (although my husband would disagree)
Valery Knavey won the race in something like 9:30. According to ride
management, she broke the course record by and hour. Marilyn Horstmeyer came
in second. She was the defending champion from '97. She cut her time by 1:20
over 1997. It was pretty fast. Genie Wonderlick was pulled at the 87 mile
mark for lameness. Danielle Knavey was pulled at 62 miles (?) for lameness.
Jim Yell, trail boss, made is a very difficult course, IMHO. He put in 5
miles of single, sandy motorcycle trail - lots of whoop-de-dos. Petosky area
is also in drought which made the trail dry and very sandy. It was TOUGH.
Twenty five started and 18 finished. Dane Fraiser was head vet and he was
pleased with how all the horses finished. His goal was not to stick a needle
in any horse and I think he accomplished that goal.
Earl Baxter and the Canadian Contingent finished, I think, around 10th-12th
at about midnight. The Rawshi kids, Joyce DeVries and Mike Mochilian brought
up the rear, about 1:30a.m. Pam Rosendal and I finished at 1:00 a.m. and I am
proud to say we were the only Michigan riders to finish this Michigan ride.
If you think Michigan rides are whimpy, please come ride Woverine. Jim Yell
likes to challenge us every year. Well, back to recuperating. The body is
almost normal but the brain still needs rest.
