Tevis Trail

I am posting this questions for a friend that is going to observe at the
Tevis this next weekend and then ride it in 1999.  His question is this:  Is
there a way to get to the top of Emigrant Summit in a 4 wheel drive jeep, to
check out the Granite Chief Wilderness area?  I hope I ask that right.
Anyone out there know if its possible?  Also, if anyone is around reading
this that will be there, he would like to take a horse out on some of the
trail to see it.  Would there be anyone he could link up with to go out on
the trail with, that has an extra horse, that's going?
