My brother lives in a very rural area of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, backing up to the George Washington National Forest.  He loves animals and always has three or four dogs that occasionally get bitten by snakes in his own backyard!  He swears by using jumper cables and not one of his dogs has ever died of a snakebite.  Hang on to that stun gun!
