Stun guns & snake bites

Hi all - 

Here in the desert, snake bites are pretty common.  I do remember some
time back a popular remedy was a shock from the car battery (probably
the same as a stun gun?).
Anyway the powers that be came out with warnings NOT to try this.  Not
only did it not help in any way to stop the venom from traveling, it
could kill you when the venom probably would not.
