The same transmission of a virus at a community water tank happened about 15
years ago on a local wagon train. Over 300 horses were sick in a couple of
days. Since the train goes from town to town and needs water, often
supplied in big tanks by the local fire department, they instituted the rule
of having "Clean" buckets supplied at the tank and making everyone dip from
the tank into their own bucket. It works. Endurance rides with tanks do
the same thing. Sure prevents a lot of sick horses.
