CTR and LD

I hate to open up a subject that has probably been beaten to death but,
I am new to the CTR and LD thing and would like it if someone could
explain the difference to me.  I searched the archives and didn't find
the answers that I was looking for.  Is an LD judged the same as
endurance only it is 25 miles or is it the same as CTR?  I'm
confused..Can you tell :)?
