I was told to be extra careful with tieing anything to the vosal. There
is metal in the noseband and it can break the horses nose. Everytime I
get off my horse, I unclip the reins from the vosal and attach them to
the halter. Even when I'm tailing. I would rather be safe then sorry.

P.S. My horse also throws her head a lot but does it much more if I have
any type of martingales. Have you ever had him checked by a
chiropractor? His neck could very well be "out". My mare goes through
phases and I know it has something to do with her cervical vertebra.
