iodine on sole
I put 7% iodine on the soles of my endurance horses almost every time I ride
them and after they are just shod. I feel this has helped keep them from
getting stone bruises. Once in a while I do get a frog cut from the rocks
though. I use a 10 cc syringe to put it on with. We have wet pastures and
the trails are rocky and mostly hard packed. If we have a real dry summer
I don't use it that much though. I used to use iodine flakes and turpentine
but they are hard to find now and it was a real mess. The fumes produced
were probably toxic. Feel like the 7% liquid is better and less drying to
the foot but you still get the protection.
