I know where you're coming from Island Girl! I lived in S. Fl. and rode
and competed (although not always in distance riding) for many years.

Here in NW Central Fl. over by the beautiful Withlacoochee State Forest
(the Southern Pines of Fl.) it is getting hot too...the face flies DO
get bothersome in the woods in the summer, but oh my, the hay prices
and other prices are in the sane range (I feed local grass and perennial
peanut hays)...and for the most part, we're sandy, not mucky like you
are down there, so the fungus aspect is almost nil.

To the party moving back to Florida...good choice...consider this area
with near access to the Withlacoochee S.F. (Brooksville, Inverness area)
which has EXCELLENT year round conditioning for any discipline including
driving.

Another area that is excellent, is the Ocala National Forest...you
should probably take a look at both areas.
