Picking
Rick Redens,who is apparently one of the great ones among
farriers,says that mud,etc,which is usually in place in the hoof acts as
a pad/support,whether the horse is shod or unshod.And of course it pops
out naturally all the time,then replaces itself.I think you should pick
'em out when funky conditions are a problem,then put the horse into a dry
spot for a while.
