FUN RIDE III on the Western States Trail
Thanks to all of the followers of RideCamp that attended the Western
States Trail Foundation "FUN RIDE III" held yesterday, April 18 in
Foresthill.
The weather was PERFECT and the Trail was in good shape (a little sloppy
after the snowstorm last week-end) and, from all reports I have heard,
the wildflowers were outstanding. The participation of 124 riders and
serving about 160 dinners helps generate monies for the repair and
maintenance of the WS Trail. When the final figures are in we will let
you know hove much we will be able to apply to the Trail. The rider
that came the furthest distance was Carlos Crespo from Florida. Ramey
Peticolis-Stroud was down from Oregon but we were unable to secure a
horse for him so he RAN the 20 mile section to Francisco's and Drivers
Flat.
If anyone wants to know how valuable 2 meter amateur radios are ask John
Maretti at jcmaretti@aol.com. John and his horse experienced a
situation that required immediate action by a veterinarian at one of the
most remote sections of the California Street portion of the WS Trail.
Radio contact by Chuck Gabri to base came allowed us to contact Dr. Rich
Jackson, DVM, of Animal Medical Clinic in Auburn via celetel. Stay
tuned for more details later from persons that had first hand
experience. Reports as of yesterday afternoon are that both horse an
rider will recover.
Thanks again for everyone's support of the Western States trail
Foundation.
