This seems to be one of these issues that
a) there is a wide range of differences of opinion and
b) could really be a pain if the butt if anything is done about it.
Where do you draw the line. Someone that prerides, prewalkd and/or
predrives the trial making key entries on his/her GPS would have a big
advantage on those who didn't. In fact pre riding the trail gives one a
big advantage. Solution close the trial to all preriding.
Those riders with large crews have an advantage over riders with a small
crew particularly in the situtations where it takes a long time to drive
between checks or the space at the checks are limited. The solution is to
force everyone to ride without a crew.
A person riding without a HRM has a disadvantage over a person riding with
an HRM so the solution is that these devices should not be allowed.
Now after these an many other rules are passed by the AERC to ensure an
absolutely level playing field in at the Bo Diddley Memorial Gallop, ride
management will have to find 30 extra people to police the riders to insure
this is an absolutely level playing field for the 15 riders that show up to
do a 50 and the 35 that show up to do a 25.
For FEI rides all these things may be an issue, but for the average
"backyard" ride where people go to have some fun, are they really a
problem. Don't we do this for fun or have we evolved passed that?
